Wesley E. Weland was born June 9, 1937 in Maryville, Missouri and departed this life on September 9, 2017 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 80 years and 3 months.He was the son of Laurence Glen and Laura “Verlie” (Ecker) Weland.
Wesley spent his younger years in the Maryville and Elmo, Missouri area where he attended school. Later he worked with his father as a welder repairing farm equipment and farming. Wesley was drafted in 1960 and, after proudly serving his country in Germany as an explosive handler for two years, he returned to the United States and made his home in the Raytown, Missouri area.
On July 12, 1997, Wesley was united in marriage with Deloris Durham in Las Vegas, Nevada. They continued to live in Raytown for a year before building their home in Belton, Missouri. Wesley worked as a welder for Trailmobile in Kansas City, Missouri for over 20 years before his retirement. He faithfully attended the Belton Christian Church of Belton, Missouri.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Verlie Weland and two brothers, Lowell and Dean Weland.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Weland of the home; two step-sons, Larry and Mike Shed; two step-daughters, Cheryl Alvarado and Deborah Parker; two brothers, Rex Weland and wife Judy and, Charles Weland and wife Karen all of Chattanooga, Tennessee; several grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral Services for Wesley E. Weland will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Belton Christian Church, Belton, Missouri with Dr. Jim Bottrell officiating. Casket Bearers will be Larry Shed, Mike Shed, Brad Parker, David Durham, Steve Meyer and Terry Brumley.
Burial will be in the Belton, Missouri Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army and V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard . The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. (1 hour prior to Funeral Service) at the church.
