Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Wendy J. Wilson

Wendy Jean Wilson was born May 19, 1966 in Kansas City, Kansas and departed this life on December 26, 2021 at her home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, at the age of 55 years, 7 months and 7 days.

She was the daughter of Royce Gerold and Dorothy Ann (Harris) Wilson.

Wendy spent the first few years of her life in Palestine, Texas. In 1974, the Wilson family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, then in 1978 they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri to make their home. Wendy was a 1984 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. Wendy furthered her education at Longview College where she earned her Associates Degree.

After graduating from Longview, Wendy worked several places, eventually accepting a position with Black and Vetch as a Project Accountant. She worked for Black and Vetch for over 25 years before declining health forced her retirement.

Wendy was an “obsessed Harry Potter fan”, reading the entire series several times. She also was a huge Sci-Fi Fan.

The most important thing in Wendy’s life, and what she took the greatest pride in, was being a mother to her only child, Brandon. As a single mother, she not only supported him financially, but made life fun for him, turning ordinary experiences into unforgettable adventures. Brandon remembers never being afraid of tornado warnings because Wendy would make their time “hiding” in the basement exciting. She loved to take him on long car rides where she would turn the radio on and they would, as Wendy called it, “seat dance” to the music. Wendy was naturally a caring and nurturing person. He also remembers her saying that maybe she should adopt a child that needed lots of hugs and love because she gave “great hugs” and had so much love to give. Wendy was always available to any family member or friend that needed help, even moving them into her own home if they needed a place to stay.

Wendy was preceded in death by her father Royce Gerold Wilson; her mother, Dorothy Ann (Harris) Wilson-Capps; one sister, Jerri Ann Harp and one nephew, Jonathan David Harp.

She is survived by her son, Brandon Wilson of Seattle, Washington; one brother, William Jay Wilson and wife Kathy of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one sister, Angela S. Slayden of Kingsville, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Robert Max Harp of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; four nephews, Robbie Harp of Holden, Missouri, Christopher Ryan Wilson of Kansas City, Missouri, Joshua Edward Harp of Wichita, Kansas and Steven Jay Wilson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; six nieces, Jennifer Ann McCabe and husband, Chris of Oak Grove, Missouri, Jennifer Renee Harp of Independence, Missouri, Kari Russell of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Tamara Slayden of Lone Jack, Missouri, Samantha Slayden of Warrensburg, Missouri and Cassidy Miller of Warrensburg, Missouri, other relatives and many, many friends.

Per Wendy’s wishes, cremation was accorded.

The family of Wendy Jean Wilson will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow, at the funeral home, with Mr. Brandon Wilson officiating.

Wendy was my work mom and mentor. She called herself “the Oracle goddess” at work and taught many others how to be Oracle goddesses too. There are a million funny memories with Wendy that I treasure. I want to send my condolences to Wendy’s family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
    Love,

I worked with Wendy for almost 20 years at Black & Veatch. I was sad to see her retire but was thrilled for her to get to take a break to enjoy life! It broke my heart to hear of her passing. She was a sweet friend and would do anything to help anyone. Her smile would light up a room and we always enjoyed sharing memories of the “good old days”! Her son was the light of her life and she would beam every time she mentioned him. I know you are in a better place now free of pain, may God’s angels watch over you and keep you smiling.
