VERNA JEAN RODGERS

Verna Jean Rodgers, 92, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, passed away April 10, 2025. “Jean” was a life-long resident of Pleasant Hill except for a few years when she moved to Pomme De Terre Lake to enjoy the lake life.

Jean attended school in Pleasant Hill where she and her twin sister, Dean, were known as the “Twinnies” by their classmates. Jean married Raymond Rodgers in 1950, they later divorced.

Jean worked several jobs during her life, Pleasant Hill Garment Factory, Communications in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, head cook for the Pleasant Hill School District, school bus driver and also cooked in several restaurants.

Jean loved to dance. She danced as long as the band would play. Her favorite was the jitterbug, but she would dance to the polka, two-step, waltz and square dance, she knew them all. Jean loved to cook and was a great pie maker. Her skillet fried chicken was delicious and her homemade chicken and noodles was looked forward to at family gatherings.

After her retirement, Jean thrived on keeping her yard looking nice. She mowed her lawn every few days, if it needed it or not. She loved flowers and had many inside and numerous varieties outside that she watered and nurtured daily. Jean was a socialite, meeting with friends several days a week for coffee and dining out. Jean loved to talk and her laugh would let you know she was in the crowd. She had a kind and caring heart and would help anyone she could.

Jean was residing at Crown Rehab and Health Care in Harrisonville when she passed away. Many of the staff and residents comforted her family, at the time of her passing, letting them know she was loved for her smile and laughter. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

She was such a sweet person, she talked about her daughter, grandson and great grandkids all the time. Telling me stories, about the times she spent with her grandson when he was growing up.
It was a pleasure to take care of her while she was at Crown.

I always enjoyed visiting with Jean. I would really get a kick out of her and her sister Dean when they got together. They had a lot of get stories to tell. I’m sorry for your loss. Prayers for all of the family. She will be missed.
