Thomas Clark “Tom” Ewing was born October 14, 1949 in Harrisonville, Missouri and departed this life on December 29, 2020, surrounded by the love of family, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 15 days.
He was the son of Clark McClellan “Peck” Ewing and Sarah Kathryn “Kate” (Huber) Ewing.
Tom spent his younger years in Raytown, Missouri, graduating from Raytown South High School in 1967. During his junior high and high school years, Tom worked at his father’s gas station in Raytown, pumping gas after school and on weekends. After graduation he went to work at Armco Steel and became a member of the Steel Workers Union.
On September 16, 1972 Tom was united in marriage with Phyllis I. Henderson. After their marriage they lived in Raytown, Missouri until 1984 when they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri to make their home. Mrs. Phyllis Ewing preceded Tom in death on July 21, 2013.
Tom Ewing was a man who truly “never met a stranger”, his outgoing personality and love of people led him to many friendships throughout his lifetime. He built a “shop” building at his home, not just to work in but, where he loved to entertain family and friends, telling stories, drinking a beer, talking about hotrods, drag racing and watching NASCAR.
Tom retired from Armco Steel (which later became GST Steel) with 32 years of service. After he retired, he took a position as a delivery driver for Heartland Tan, where he worked for another 10 years.
In addition to his wife Phyllis Ewing, Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Clark McClellan “Peck” and Sarah Kathryn “Kate” Ewing.
He is survived by one son, David Thomas Ewing and wife Kathy of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one daughter, Sarah Lynn Chernisky and husband Brock of Raymore, Missouri; four grandchildren, Dalton Francy, Kate Ewing, Sam Ewing and Andie Chernisky; other relatives and many, many friends.
Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. James Stanfield-Myers, officiating. Casket Bearers will be Dalton Francy, Sam Ewing, Steve Gillis, Bruce Ponder, Chad Driskill and Chris Gross.
The family of Thomas Clark “Tom” Ewing will host a Celebration of Life Luncheon immediately following the graveside service, at Big Iron Town, 29608 E. 179th Street, Pleasant Hill, Missouri 64080. Everybody is welcome.

So sorry for your loss. Sending prayers for peace and healing.
David & Sarah I’m sorry for your loss. He was so proud of his family, he talked about you all the time. I’m going to miss his laugh and “ready for another one?”. I worked at Armco with him. Covid kept me from visiting, saw him at the hospital last year. Never thought it would be the last time. Again, so sorry.
Praying for Tom’s family. Tom and I worked together at Armco for many years and I can attest to his great personality and work ethic. Always a man I was proud to call my friend!
Sarah, David and families. We are sorry for your loss. Many good memories of both Tom and Phyllis.
So sorry for your loss, wishing you and your families peace and comfort.

Sorry Sarah and David, I can picture Tom now sitting in his shop with his Busch Light throwing his head back and laughing. There are so many stories and conversations we all had for so many years. A lot of memories I will always cherish. Prayers for you and your families to help get through this.
Dear Ewing Family,
I’m very sorry to learn of Tom’s passing, I know he will be deeply missed, just as I know your mom has been. Phyllis was my hair dresser for years, and I thought the world of her, and like your dad, she was taken from us far too soon. Your mom and dad were such a loving, giving, caring, and happy couple, and now they are together again. Your dad used to come into the Beauty Shop and chat a bit, and he was always so friendly, and willing to join in for a few minutes, when most husbands would have run for the hills. Not Tom, he was always just nice, and friendly, with everyone in the shop. As it says, “No one was a stranger”, to Tom. I didn’t know your dad like I knew your mom, but I know “she loved him dearly”, and was very proud of him, and all he had done with their home and land, and what a great guy he was, and she always had real “good judgment”, so I know Tom was a darn good man, and good to all of his family. I know you will all miss him very much.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and may all your good memories keep your dad alive in your hearts always. May God bless you, and give you His grace, strength, and comfort, in the days and weeks to come. As it’s been said, “God always seems to take the ‘good’ ones”, and that’s so true.
For all of you, my deepest sympathies and prayers at this sad time of loss,
Darlene Oberman, (One of your mom’s long time customers)
