Tammy Jo (Flathers) Ponder was born September 11, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life, surrounded by the love of her family, on March 2, 2020 at her home in Blue Springs, Missouri at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 20 days.
She was the daughter of Walter Wayne Flathers, Sr. and JoAnn (Luthane) Flathers.
Tammy spent her younger years in the Kansas City area where she attended school.
On May 14, 1993 she was united in marriage with Kenneth Scott Ponder. Following their marriage Tammy and Scott lived in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, then Kingsville, Missouri. In 2002 they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri and lived here until 2016 when they moved to Blue Springs, Missouri to make their home.
Tammy had been a school bus driver for the Lee’s Summit Public Schools System before declining health forced her retirement.
Tammy enjoyed fishing, shopping, and visiting with family and friends, she never met a stranger. She also loved her fur babies.
Even though Tammy had many health challenges throughout her life, her faith always remained strong. She was an active and dedicated member of Lifegate Church in Independence, Missouri.
Tammy was preceded in death by her father and mother, Walter Wayne Flathers, Sr. and JoAnn Flathers.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Scott Ponder of the home; one daughter, Rachel Ponder and husband Greg of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; mother-in-law, Dorothy Ponder of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; brother, Walter Wayne Flathers, Jr.; sisters, Gayleen Reneé Smith of Blue Springs, Missouri, Jackie Ann Rehkop of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Shelli Lynn Corn of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Bonnie Flathers of Kansas City, Missouri; aunt, Phyllis Moore of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; grandchildren, Skylar Manis, Isiah Manis, Bella Allen and A’layna Allen, other relatives and many friends.
The family of Tammy Jo (Flathers) Ponder will host a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Lifegate Church, 2911 Blue Ridge Blvd., Independence, Missouri 64052, with Pastor Brian Gallardo officiating.
The family suggest contributions to the Wallace Funeral Home for final expenses.
