Robert Leroy Brock was born February 10, 1928 in Slater, Missouri and departed this life on Saturday, February 13, 2016, surrounded by the love of his family, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dennis Walton, in Pleasant Hill at the age of 88 years and 3 days.
He was the son of Otto Latham and Erma Marie “Emma” (Depestle) Brock.
Robert lived in Slater, until his father was laid off from the railroad during the depression years, the family then moved to Kansas City, Missouri for employment opportunities. Later, the Brock family moved back to Slater where his father resumed working for the railroad, and Robert graduated from Slater High School.
After graduation Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Robert was signed by the New York Yankees on their practice team and became friends with fellow teammates, Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. After his time with the Yankees, Robert worked for Owens-Corning in Kansas City and as a car salesman for Ford, before being employed by Milgrams Food Store in Brookside as the liquor department manager. It was while working at Milgrams Food Store he met fellow employee, Anita Arlene Kirby, and at midnight on January 1, 1967, they were united in marriage. Robert and Anita continued to live in Kansas City until their retirement when they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas to play golf, travel (which they did extensively) and enjoy life. In 2007, they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri to be closer to their family. Anita preceded Robert in death by 6 days, on February 7, 2016.
Robert was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas, the Bella Vista Country Club and the Retail Clerks Union Local of Kansas City.
In addition to his wife, Anita, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Emma Brock; three brothers, Richard, Lawrence and Harold Brock and two sisters, Flora Pope and Emma Noble.
He is survived by two daughters, Deanna Sloop of Ottawa, Kansas and Linda Walton and husband Dennis of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Orval and Polly Barrett of Gravette, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Anita Arlene Redenbaugh, Frank Harold Moore, Audra Dee Donahue, Christopher Patrick Moore, Angela Marie Spielbusch, Daisy Lynn Pfaff and Roy Dustin Moore; 19 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
The family of Robert Leroy Brock will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill where the Rosary Recitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the South West City Cemetery in South West City, Missouri.
Casket Bearers are Frank Harold Moore, Christopher Patrick Moore, Roy Dustin Moore, James Spielbusch, James Donahue, Richard Reeves and John Pfaff.
