NORMA JEAN (Cotter) McCONVILLE
Norma Jean (Cotter) McConville was born December 6, 1932 in Holden, Missouri and departed this life on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 91 years, 9 month and 7 days.
She was the daughter of James Oswald and Letha Tillie (Meier) Cotter.
Norma spent her childhood in Holden and attended school there. On July 10, 1952 she was united in marriage with Clyde William McConville in Bentonville, Arkansas. After their marriage they made their home in Holden where they raised two children, Bill and Kathy. Norma and Clyde lived in Holden until June of 2017, when they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Clyde McConville passed away on March 2, 2021 and Norma continued to live in Pleasant Hill until her passing.
Norma worked at the Holden Manufacturing Company for many years and was a member of the New Life Fellowship Baptist Church of Holden, Missouri.
Norma was a life member of V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #5844 in Holden where she served as Secretary for 2 decades, Love Americanism Chairman, Patriotic Instructor for many years, and while serving as the Historian, submitted a yearbook that won 2nd place in the district.
Norma loved to host family dinners especially during the holidays. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she would proceed to decorate every nook and cranny of her home as well as the outside and looked forward to having her entire family gathered together in her home.
In their younger years, Norma and Clyde enjoyed their lake home in Warsaw, Missouri where, on weekends, they loved to entertain family and friends. Later in life she enjoyed “going to the boats” with friends and family. Norma was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. On game days you would find her decked out in all her Chiefs apparel and jewelry, in front of the television, cheering them on to victory.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde “Jay” McConville; parents, James and Letha Cotter; brothers, William “Bill” Cotter, James “Dude” Cotter and his wife Thelma, and Gary Cotter and his wife Shirley; two sisters, Mary Thorp and her husband Jim, and Katherine Joene Clemons and her husband Jess.
She is survived by her son, William “Bill” McConville and wife Marcia of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; her daughter, Kathy Burks and husband Clearence of Urich, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Ann Cotter of Raymore, Missouri, Mary McConville of Holden, Missouri, Shirley Shull and husband George of Kingsville, Missouri, and Pat Stewart and husband Mike of Blue Springs, Missouri; brother-in-law, Bob McConville and wife Linda of Holden, Missouri; six grandchildren, Brandi Schemerhorn and husband Steve of Wolcott, Indiana, James Hackett-McConville and wife Holly of Hermitage, Missouri, Joni Burks of Lexington, Missouri, Justin McConville and wife Rebecca of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; Charles Burks and wife Mindy of Rockaway Beach, Missouri and, Clint Burks and wife Sarah of Kingsville, Missouri; 13 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family of Norma Jean (Cotter) McConville will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Casteel officiating. Casket Bearers will be James Hackett-McConville, Justin McConville, Charles Burks, Clint Burks, Tony Wickam and David DeLong. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
