Murtes William Crain was born April 21, 1929 in Fair Play, Missouri and departed this life on November 8, 2018 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 18 days.
He was the son of William Nelson and Margaret May (Taylor) Crain.
Murtes spent his younger years in Fair Play, Missouri where he attended school. Murtes was a mechanic for General Motors before his retirement. In his spare time, he loved to build and repurpose things, he created a camper out of an old school bus and built a camper for the back of his truck (but forgot to measure how tall the garage door was, and the truck would not fit in the garage with the camper on it). When the Crain’s built their new house in 1964, Murtes spent countless hours at the library, studying on how to electrically wire a house, he then proceeded to do all the wiring on the new house.
In addition to his wife, Rosetta Elizabeth Crain, Murtes was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Crain.
He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Crain of Lee’s Summit, and Beth (Crain) Phillips and husband Marvin of Henderson, Nevada; one sister, Lucille; one grandson, Max James McGrath, other relatives and many friends.
In accordance with Murtes’ wishes, cremation has been accorded and no services are scheduled.
