Marian graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1946 and immediately went to work for the Felix V. Gross Law Firm in Pleasant Hill as a legal secretary. She served as Mr. Gross’ secretary until her retirement, over fifty years later.
On October 25, 1947 she was united in marriage with Elmer “Ellis” DeShazer and they made their home in Pleasant Hill. Ellis preceded Marian in death in March of 1995.
Marian was known for her beautiful home, and very proud of the gorgeous copper ceiling she had installed in her kitchen, her immaculate yard, her love of jaunty caps and leopard print clothing. At the age of 77, Marian bought a brand new white “Hummer” and loved driving it everywhere. She also enjoyed the shocked looks she got when this every petite woman would climb out of this huge machine.
Marian was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #3118 of Pleasant Hill and had been awarded a fifty year pin for her faithful service to that organization.
In addition to her husband Ellis, Marian was preceded in death by both her parents and eight brothers and sisters. Marian is survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
Graveside Service and Interment for Marian E. (Slenker) DeShazer will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Missouri, with Chaplain Rachel Waddell from Crossroads Hospice, officiating.
