Joseph “Mike” Ligh
tfoot was born June 2, 1942 in Independence, Missouri and departed this life on January 25, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 23 days.
He was the son of James Ross Lightfoot, Sr. and Mildred Virginia (Land) Lightfoot.
Mike graduated from Cullman High School, Cullman County, Alabama, in 1960. On Feb. 3, 1962, He was united in marriage with Patricia Ann Thurston in Fairview, Alabama. After their marriage, Mike and Pat moved to Pleasant Hill to make their home.
Mike worked for General Motors for many years, retiring in 1999 as a Building Engineer. He attended the Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Mike was a former member of the Pleasant Hill Town and Country Art League, where he and his daughter Lisa, took painting classes together. Mike painted in acrylics, water color and oils, and took lessons not only locally, but other places as well. In addition to his art work, Mike loved to read, especially books with historical value. He and Pat loved to attend the various sporting events of their grandchildren, even traveling to Texas just to make sure all the grandchildren were included.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James Ross and Mildred Virginia (Land) Lightfoot, Sr.; one brother, James Ross “Bud” Lightfoot, Jr. and one sister, Judy (Lightfoot) Hagberg.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Lightfoot of the home; two sons, Robert Lightfoot and wife Christine of Pleasant Hill, MO., and Bryan Lightfoot and wife Tina of Lee’s Summit, MO; one daughter, Lisa (Lightfoot) Kear and husband Chris of Easton, Kansas; sister-in-law, Sue Lightfoot of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; brother-in-law, Ellis Hagberg of Seattle, Washington; 6 grandchildren, Jarrod and Cole Lightfoot, Bradley and Danielle Lightfoot, and Cody and Megan Kear, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services for Joseph “Mike” Lightfoot will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, MO, with Jordan Edwards and Mark Swartz officiating. Casket Bearers will be Jarrod Lightfoot, Cody Kear, Robert Lightfoot, Bryan Lightfoot, Steve Spandle, Bradley Lightfoot, Lawrence Ore and Trevor Carlile.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 5 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral Home.
