James Michael Mayabb was born January 28, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on February 8, 2022 at his home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 84 years and 11 days.
He was the son of Don Harley and Rosealma (Painter) Mayabb.
Jim spent the first six years of his life in Sugar Creek, Missouri before the Mayabb family moved to Strasburg, Missouri. Jim attended first grade in Strasburg, then attended school in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, graduating in 1956. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army and United States Army Reserves from 1957 until 1963.
On November 29, 1957, Jim was united in marriage with Joyce Elaine Hand in Harrisonville, Missouri and they made their home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Jim worked for General Motors for 13 years before becoming a partner in Midwest Painting Company in 1972. In the early 1980’s, he owned and operated two business in Pleasant Hill, T. J. Liquor Store and, along with his son, Mike, Mayabb Painting and Building. Later, he worked for Preferred Contracting until his retirement in 2003. Jim was never one to sit still, even after his retirement, his work ethic remained strong, and he still contracted small painting jobs along with his wife Joyce as his assistant.
The most important thing in Jim’s life was his family. He was a loving, supportive and hard working husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family. He loved to take his family camping, hunting and fishing. Jim was a true and genuine friend to many, and he will be missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Rosealma Mayabb; three sisters, Elizabeth Crain, Jean Reiche and Kay McMillen.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Hand) Mayabb of the home; one son, Michael Mayabb and wife Lisa, and one daughter, Julie Hanifl and husband Todd all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one sister, Dorothea Stephens and husband Louis of Harrisonville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Michael J. Mayabb and wife Ashley of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Travis Mayabb of Mission, Kansas and Kenton Hanifl and wife Ash of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Chloe, Harper, Penelope, and Edgar; other relatives and many friends.
Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.
Graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. Kent Deubner officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and V.F.W. post #3118 Honor Guard of Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

I was so sorry to hear about Jim , he was a wonderful person. It seems as I have known you and Jim my entire life. He was around when I was growing up becouse of being friends with Glenn and Jay. I will be praying that God will comfort you and watch over you. I know i it isn’t easy but God will be there to help you get though and so are your children and your friends. ❤

He was the best softball team owner anyone could ask for. Always supporting us no matter where we played. Joyce was our biggest cheerleader I believe. Thanks to you both for allowing us to be a part of your lives. RIP Jim !!
