JAMES “FREDDIE” POPE
James Freddie Pope was born April 28, 1942 in Hurley, Missouri and departed this life on October 24, 2022 at his home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 26 days.
He was the son of Lowell W. Pope and Bernice (Wright) Lambert.
The Pope family moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri in 1950, where Freddie attended school.
After his high school years, Freddie went to work in the concrete foundation and flat work industry. His first job was with AA1-Concrete Foundations in Pleasant Hill, later he drove a concrete truck for a redi-mix company in Martin City, Missouri. His next job was with Waldo Foundations, also in Martin City, Missouri. In 1970, Freddie went to work for Michael’s Foundation Company and in 1974 became co-owner of the company. In 1976, Freddie became sole owner and operator of Michael’s Foundation company and changed the name to Freddie’s Foundations. In 1990, Freddie added an excavating company to his business and in 2000 Freddie and his son Jamie started J. & P. Pumping, operating that company in addition to his foundation and excavating businesses.
On March 5, 1961, Freddie was united in marriage with Margrett A. Terril at the First Presbyterian Church of Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Freddie and Margrett lived their entire married lives in Pleasant Hill.
In his younger years, Freddie enjoyed barrel racing and, training and riding cutting horses. He still enjoyed caring for his cattle and working on his farm and was a member of the Missouri Cattleman Association.
Freddie was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. One of his favorite things to do with his grandsons was the annual trip to Branson, Missouri.
Freddie was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Lowell W. and Dorothy Pope; his mother and step-father, Bernice and Clarence Lambert, and one brother, Gary Pope.
He is survived by his wife, Margrett (Terril) Pope of the home; one son, James Lowell Pope and wife Lea Ann of Harrisonville, Missouri; one sister, Imolene Carden and husband Dick of Little Rock, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Brody Pope and wife Lindsay of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Nolan Pope and wife Mackenzie of Peculiar, Missouri; two step-grandchildren, Brittney Burns and husband Mike of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Sean Corson and wife Cassie of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
The family of Freddie Pope will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Casteel, officiating. Casket Bearers will be Nolan Pope, Brody Pope, Jimmy Elliott, Kelly Terril, James Vereecke and James Pope. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mike and I are so sorry to hear of the loss of Freddie. Freddie was a great neighbor and friend, we shared many visits over the course of 33 years. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
