Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Jackie L. “Jack” Truman

JACKIE L. “Jack” TRUMAN

Life was precious to Jack, and he lived it to the fullest. Born into a close-knit family in California, he was raised in the church, singing gospel alongside his mother, Darlene, and Aunt Sharon. His family cherished music and singing. From an early age, Jack’s mother guided him in learning the piano. His debut public performance came at just five years old when he sang at a wedding. Jack came from a family deeply devoted to God and passionate about gospel music.

Jack relocated to Kansas City in 2002 and encountered his future partner, Jim Lilly, in the spring of 2003.

As a member of MGRA, Jack took on the role of Rodeo Director and was a vibrant part of the rodeo circuit. He earned the title of Mr. MGRA in 2005.

Jack was an active and dedicated member of Spirit of Hope Metropolitan Church.

In Jack’s early years in California, he cultivated a love for flowers and interior design. Jack’s passion for flowers and design led him to establish a thriving floral shop in Lee’s Summit. He provided numerous exquisite arrangements for events throughout the metro area. Working closely with clients to bring their visions to life was something Jack cherished.

Jack took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and doting on all the children in his life. His excellent sense of humor, love for laughter, and family life were his hallmarks. Jack relished in celebrating the holidays and making lasting memories with his family.

His passing has left a profound void.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, William Ludell Truman and his mother, Evelyn “Darlene” Truman; one brother, Bill Truman and one sister, Sherry Truman.

He is survived by his partner, Jim Lilly of the home; two sons, Tyler Rains and Ryan Rains both of Camino, California; one daughter, Shelbae Olerich and husband Holden of Midwest City, Oklahoma; aunt, Sharon Rogers of California; brother, Bobby Truman of Oklahoma; sister, Brenda Truman and Kelly Mattocks of Moore, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Cody Truman, Ryleigh Olerich, and Hunter Olerich; nieces, Jennifer and Crystal; nephew, Dustin, other relatives and many friends.

The family of Jackie “Jack” Truman will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the funeral home with Rev. Lynne Brown officiating. Casket Bearers will be Tyler Rains, Chris Rudder, Avery Brown, Dustin Truman, Noah Coddington, Justin Gower and Austin Brown. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Jack was a force of life. He brought joy to all he knew. Through his many and varied talents, he had creative solutions for everything. He created beauty and brought common sense into all that he touched and always with “style.“. I was in awe of him . Was there anything that he could not do?!?
He was very beloved by all members of our family. .He will leave a hole in our hearts.
What a wonderful man that shed such light on everyone and everything.
You will be missed, Jack. Rest in Peace.

I was Jack’s pastor for many years here in California. We lost touch over the years. We remember him and his lovely voice. May God bless the family in their loss.

My heartfelt condolences to Jim and Jack’s family. Jack helped me in MGRA and although we didn’t see eye to eye on some things, his dedication and zest for helping taught me a lot, preparing me to be Mr. MGRA 2009. Right or wrong, he was dedicated and moved forward with his decision. I was blessed to have him as a friend. Much love to all.
