Elizabeth (Kennedy) Garry was born October 11, 1916, east of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and departed this life on February 12, 2017 at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pleasant Hill, at the age of 100 years, 4 months and 1 day. She was the daughter of Wayne and Ruth (Lancaster) Kennedy.
She spent her early years east of Pleasant Hill on the family farm and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1934. On March 19, 1939 she was united in marriage with William Garry and to this union three sons, Michael, Patrick and Robert, were born.
The Garry family lived south of Pleasant Hill for a few years, then moved back east of town, just two miles from where Elizabeth was born. Elizabeth lived there until 3 years ago when declining health necessitated a move to the care center. Elizabeth was a farmer, full time homemaker and worked for eleven years in the Pleasant Hill School cafeteria with Mrs. Gertrude Wallace.
Elizabeth was a former member of the Friendly Circle Club and had served on the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Board for thirty years. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and was fond of the 23rd Psalm.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Ruth Kennedy; her husband, William Garry; her brother, Roy Kennedy, and two sons, Michael and Robert.
She is survived by one son, Pat Garry and wife Trudy of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Carole Garry of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; one sister, Faye Gillogly; one grandson, Brennen Garry and wife Dana; three granddaughters, Cydney Upton and husband Charlie, Jennifer Kendrick and husband Aaron, and Alison LeCluyse and husband Ryan; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service for Elizabeth Garry will be 2:30 P.M. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with Rev. Dave Owsley officiating. Vocalist will be Chuck Fulton. Casket Bearers are Darrell Gray, Henry Saubers, Steve Kennedy, James Kincaid, Lance Baker and Randy Greufe. Honorary Bearers are Charlie Upton, Brennen Garry, Aaron Kendrick, Ryan LeCluyse, Teresa Rogers and Diane Karna. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 18, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In memory of Elizabeth Garry, the family suggests contributions to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church
