David Paul Shewmaker was born October 25, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on June 13, 2020 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Missouri at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 19 days.
He was the son of Clyde Ray and Eva Leona (Fuqua) Shewmaker.
David grew up in Lake Lotawana, Missouri. He attended Mason Elementary School and later graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1973.
On May 24, 1976, David was united in marriage with Victoria Lynn Thornton in Independence, Missouri and they made their home in Lake Lotawana, Missouri until about 10 years ago when they moved to Blue Springs, Missouri.
David worked as a tool and die maker for Metric Tool and Die. He also was a dispatcher for the Lake Lotawana Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
David was a founding member of the Elsea Smith Band, and a member of Bluz Benderz Blues Band. He also played with countless musicians from across the country. In his spare time, David loved to fish. He was also known as quite the “Jokester” among family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Eva Shewmaker; five brothers, James Shewmaker, Danny Shewmaker, John Shewmaker, Warren Shewmaker and Harold Shewmaker; three sisters, Norma Jean Hackley, Rena Mae Hunt and Virginia (Gigi) Wilson, and one granddaughter, Kennedy Butrum on July 14, 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki L. (Thornton) Shewmaker of the home; one son, Joe D. Shewmaker of Blue Springs, Missouri; one daughter, Kari L. (Shewmaker) Butrum and husband Blake of Sugar Creek, Missouri; one grandson, Branton R. Butrum, other relatives and many, many friends.
The family of David Paul Shewmaker will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Elder Butch Shewmaker officiating. Casket Bearers will be Wes Holden, Billy Ebling, Wally Binney, Dwane Goldston, Dennis Nickel and Andy Kinne. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Contributions, in Memory of David Paul Shewmaker, to help the family with final expense would be appreciated and may be made to Vicki Shewmaker.

Spent lots of time with Dave at Dirty Harries trading BS stories about Lake Lotawana where we both had lived. it was a wild and crazy place He sure was talented and will be greatly missed.
