CLYDE DEWANE AKINS
Clyde Dewane Akins, age 85, of Wheatland, Missouri formerly of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, died Monday, January 20, 2025 at his son’s home in Pleasant Hill. He was born August 23, 1939 in Charlotte, Missouri, the son of Clyde W. and Ruth (Giddens) Akins.
Clyde graduated from LaTour High School in 1957. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1961 as an Engineman aboard the USS WILTSIE and the USS JOYCE.
On January 4,1964 he was united in marriage with Daun Elaine Land in Harrisonville, Missouri and they made their home in Pleasant Hill. They were married for 38 years until her death in 2002.
Clyde is survived by his two sons, Donnie Akins of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and, Shannon Akins and Josinne Gustin of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; sisters, Bonnie Riffle of LaTour, Missouri and, B.K. Wurdeman of Cole Camp, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daun Akins; his parents, Clyde W. and Ruth Akins; sister, Patricia Thurman and brother, Ted Akins.
Clyde was a member of the Heavy Construction Laborers Union #663. He worked for many years as an Asphalt Superintendent in the Kansas City area, before retiring to the Truman Lake area in 2002.
In 2004 Clyde married Phyllis Spencer, they later divorced, but remained friends and dancing partners. Clyde enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and riding his Harley. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
Per Clyde’s wishes, cremation has been accorded and no service will be held.
