Clara “Virginia” (Beard) Smith was born December 14, 1932 in Sweet Springs, Missouri and departed this life on April 10, 2016 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Susan Smith, in Cleveland, Missouri, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the daughter of William Andrew and Bertha May (Pannell) Beard.
Virginia graduated from Marshall, Missouri High School in 1950. On February 25, 1956, she was united in marriage to Orvin “Harold” Smith in Boone County, Arkansas. In 1960, the Smith family moved to Grandview, Missouri to make their home, where they lived until Harold’s passing on November 26, 2015. After Harold’s death, Virginia moved to Cleveland, Missouri to be near family.
Virginia was a bookkeeper for Sears for over 10 years and then for House of Lloyd’s for 15 years. In addition to her regular career, Virginia was an Avon representative, a job she dearly loved, for 7 years. For several years, Virginia and Harold were the distributors of the Belton Shopper.
Virginia was a member of the Grandview, Missouri Assembly of God Church and had been an active member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #8220.
In addition to her husband Harold, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, William Andrew and Bertha May Beard; two brothers, Clayton and Roe Beard; five sisters, Geraldine Wright, Helen Green, Freda Mark, Ruby Beasley and Vonnie Self.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Smith and wife Phyllis of Pittsburg, Missouri and Daniel and Susan Smith of Cleveland, Missouri; four grandchildren, Casey Smith and Kristin of Greenwood, Missouri, Melissa Hernandez of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Danny Smith and wife Amy, and Andrea Green and husband Chris all of Peculiar, Missouri; 9 great grandchildren, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral Service for Clara “Virginia” Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with Rev. Tim Casteel officiating. Casket Bearers will be Melissa Hernandez, Danny Smith, Chris Green, Samantha Hernandez, Casey Smith and Andrea Green. Burial will be in the Belton Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 12noon until service time at 2:00p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
