ALLEN LEWIS McHENRY

Allen Lewis McHenry was born September 24, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on January 1, 2025 at his home in Independence, Missouri at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 8 days.

He was the son of Jack Paul and Laverna Maxine (Covington) McHenry.

Allen spent most of his life in the Kansas City, Missouri area, graduating from Center High School in 1965. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from December 12, 1966 until December 11, 1968. One year of his military service was in Vietnam. After is Honorable Discharge from the Army, Allen returned to the Kansas City area.

On December 19, 1969, Allen was united in marriage with Edna Lucille Corum and to this union 4 children, Shane, Shawn, Pamela, and Shannon were born. The McHenry family made their home in Independence, Missouri.

Allen was a painter for the Kansas City, Missouri School district for 23 years before becoming a self-employed painter.

Allen enjoyed playing pool, horseshoes and hosting barbecues for his family where he was ALWAYS the cook.

Above all else, Allen took great pride in his family and their accomplishments, and was fond of saying “ I raised 4 children who all turned out to be good people and a contribution to society.”

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Paul and Laverna Maxine (Covington) McHenry and one brother, Jerry McHenry.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edna Lucille (Corum) McHenry of the home; three  sons, Shane McHenry and wife Kristine of Shenandoah, Iowa, Shawn McHenry of Crownpoint, New Mexico, Shannon McHenry of the home; one daughter, Pamela McHenry-Barrett and husband Doug Barrett of Independence, Missouri; two brothers, David McHenry and wife Viola of West Fork, Arkansas and Brent McHenry and wife Christine of Higginsville, Missouri; sister-in-law, Sue McHenry of Belton, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Ashley Pointer, Dakota Barrett, Kirstin Baker and Diedre Jenkins; 6 great-grandchildren, Owen, Evan, Enzo, Kellen, Easton and Fallon; other relatives and many friends.

The family of Allen Lewis McHenry will receive friends at a Celebration of Life Visitation from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Wallace Funeral Home, 422 N. Lake Street, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Allen will be laid to rest at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri at a later date.

Contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be made online at stjude.org. or sent in care of the funeral home.

    Very sorry for your loss. I have known Allen’s son Shane for many years and can attest to Allen having successfully raised “good people”! God’s grace and peace to the entire McHenry family as you mourn your loss.
