Sandra Sue (McKee) Zumwalt “Mammy”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Mammy; Sandra Zumwalt, on September 25th, 2024, at the age of 86. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, friend, and a source of love to everyone she met. 

Born on November 22, 1937, in Cleveland, MO to Maxine Nelson and Welby McKee. Sandy lived a life filled with kindness, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She worked many places, but keeping her family together was her most important job. She married the love of her life, Ray, the day after her 18th birthday because her mom told her she had to wait until she was 18. 

Throughout her life, Sandy was known for her famous noodles, sense of humor, and the beautiful poems she loved writing. She had a passion for going to the casino, cooking for and spending time with her family, and helping anyone she could which brought joy to her and those around her. 

Sandy is survived by her children, Kevin Zumwalt (Donna), Keith Zumwalt, and Melissa Zumwalt. grandchildren, Melinda (Steve) Rouff, Michael (Krista) Zumwalt, Jennifer Zumwalt, Shanna (Dan) Christen, Chance (Brittany) Zumwalt, Taylor (John) Cunningham, Brennan Zumwalt, Daytona Zumwalt, and Isabella Zumwalt, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; Sister, Betty Lou (Greg) Linvill, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, adopted children, friends, her treasured pets, Minnie and Rosie, and so many loved ones who will remember her fondly. She was everyone’s Mammy and meant so much to everyone who knew her. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Zumwalt; Parents, Maxine Franse and Welby McKee; sisters, Janice Pennington, Karen Nannen, Judith Libenow, Mary Jane Logan, and Rita Shuck; grandson Noah Pitts Zumwalt; great-granddaughter Jordan Rouff; niece Toye Click; great-niece Burgandy Thomas; and best friends Marilyn Clawson and Irene Wallace. 

The family of Sandra Zumwalt will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at the Cleveland Christian Church, 303 West Main St. Cleveland, MO 64734. A Celebration of Life Service will be held immediately following at 1:00 p.m. the Cleveland Christian Church. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, at West Union Cemetery. All are welcome to join us in honoring her memory. 

We will forever carry her love in our hearts. 

Rest in peace, sweet Mammy. You are so deeply missed.

    Mammy you were one of a kind you welcomed anyone and everyone and always made sure whoever needed love or just someone to talk to you were there and you were a listening ear you’ll forever be missed by many until we meet again love ya mammy

    Sandy, treated my siblings and I like one of her own children as I am sure she did for others. I will never forget her kindness in making my sister’s wedding cake as a gift. I could share many more stories of her kindness to the entire Thompson clan. Blessings and love to her family from all of us Thompsons.

    I feel overwhelmingly blessed to have known and loved Mammy. The simple thought of her over the years has brought so much joy and happiness to me.. I will never forget her stories her smile her laugh and her humor. She will Forever be in my heart❤️
